Featured is a sassafras leaf. There are three existant species of sassafras, one native to eastern North America, and two species native to China. There was another, now extinct species native to the Pacific Northwest. All parts of sassafras plants, including roots, stems, twig leaves, bark, flowers, and fruit, have been used for culinary, medicinal, and aromatic purposes.
I love the shapes of sassafras leaves so I just painted them alone. The paintings complement one another well.
